The Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Annual Santa Detail is a highlight of the season. (Especially when you have a 4 year old little boy!) All of the neighborhoods in the Catonsville and Arbutus area are mapped out and meticulously visited on that specific day. For a total of 11 days the volunteers escort Santa on a BIG RED FIRE TRUCK. The 17th Annual Lighting of the Holiday Tree in Catonsville, Maryland. 2010 The traditional kick off to the holiday season in Catonsville, Maryland happens on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Saturday November 27th at 6:30 the festivities will begin in the heart of the business district on Frederick Road outside of the fire station.  There is live seasonal music from local groups, complimentary toasty warm beverages and of course the very loud arrival of Santa on the fire truck.   Yesterday I posted a picture in the "Wordless Wednesday" Group just titled"Catonsville" The intent was not to be cryptic. It was one of a few taken last week during an OPEN HOUSE we attended at St Marks School in Catonsville My little angel is now in Pre-K and it's time to decide where he will be starting Kindergarten next Fall. St Marks Catholic School is an excellent school in the heart of Catonsville founded in 1889 under the School Sisters of Notre Dame. They have served generations of families in the Catonsville area and is very close to home. The Open House tour was very informative and our 7th grade  guides diligently showed us all of the areas of the school. There is no Mistake that it is Fall in Maryland. Catonsville is an area rich in old leafy trees. The beauty of the changing landscape is breathtaking. A change that is followed by the falling of the leaves and the carpet that they create on the ground. There is nothing more enjoyable than "Shushing" in the piles that the wind creates. This was our late afternoon walk enjoying the delicious warm weather we have had this week. Great streets of Catonsville, Maryland- Dutton Avenue One of my favorite Streets in the Catonsville 21228 zip code is Dutton Ave. One block of homes between North and South Rolling Road in Historic Catonsville it is still close to all the conveniences of the area. Apart from the fact it is the quickest cut-through from Frederick Road to Edmondson Road to avoid the traffic at Hillcrest Elementary School, it is also one of the quirkiest Streets in the 'ville. It's a straight street that is approximately 1/4 of a mile long with lots of lush mature trees on either side.    No two houses are alike. The turn over is very small and in fact the last home to sell on this street was in November of 2008.   I used Picnik to give my pictures a more antiquated look. September is the perfect month to visit the 37th Annual Catonsville Arts & Crafts Festival on September 12, 2010. This yearly festival is a true highlight in the Catonsville calendar.  Each year, rain or shine, hundreds of crafters and artisans come to the Frederick Road business district between Bloomsbury Avenue ~Ingleside Avenue and Melvin Avenue in Catonsville and set up stands to display their products. The roads are closed to traffic and detoured around the area.  The event starts at 10am and continues on till 5pm. It is free to attend.
