Volunteer Needed for the Kentlands Board of Code Compliance   There is an opening for a volunteer from the Kentlands community to serve on the Kentlands Board of Code Compliance (BoCC). The BoCC deals with the exterior appearance of Kentlands properties by investigating potential violations of community codes, which include both maintenance standards and the Kentlands Design Standards. The BoCC attempts to informally resolve violation issues and to facilitate remedial action by, for example, working with property owners to establish reasonable compliance dates. Issues are tracked until resolved.   The BoCC meets at the Kentlands Clubhouse on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM . Police Warn of Credit Card Theft Incidents Targeting Elderly Victims 11/20/11 Kentlands Neighborhood Watch Officers from the Montgomery County Police 4th District are investigating several incidents in which elderly citizens have become victims of credit card theft. On September 9, the wallet of an 89-year-old man was stolen while he was on an elevator in the medical office building located at 18109 Prince Philip Drive in Olney.  On October 20, the wallet of an 87-year-old woman was stolen from her purse while she was shopping at the Giant Food store located at 3860 International Drive in Silver Spring (Leisure World Plaza).  In this incident, the suspects distracted the victim by asking him to help them locate a lost contact lens. Tiger at the National Zoo - Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs 11/17/11 Dolores and I took advantage of the beautiful Maryland weather on Sunday and drove into Washington, DC to visit the National Zoo.  The zoo is only 21 miles from our home in the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg.  The Tiger was obviously anxious for the next meal. Lion in the Autumn Sun - Roy and Dolores Kelley Photographs 11/16/11 Sunday was a beautiful day in Maryland so Dolores and I drove into Washington, DC to the National Zoo to enjoy the exhibits and take a few photographs.  The National Zoo is about 21 miles from our home in the Kentlands area of Gaithersburg.  Well, you can't go to the zoo without seeking out the lions.  The were enjoying the unusually mild November weather. Normally, we photograph flowers.  So, it was fun to focus on the animals for the afternoon.  We highly recommend a visit to the National Zoo when you are in the area. Spoon Mums at Longwood Gardens 11/13/11 If you enjoy Chrysanthemums and other autumn flowers, now is a good time to visit Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.  Kennett Square is located just west of Wilmington, Delaware. The current exhibit in the very large Conservatory is the Chrysanthemum Festival.  It is a good place to spend a day for pure pleasure and any needed attitude adjustment. Gaithersburg Adds New Location to Safe Speed Enforcement Program 11/9/11   A new location has been approved for enforcement efforts under the City of Gaithersburg’s Safe Speed Program.  The speed enforcement cameras, which became operational on November 1, 2011, are deployed in both directions of Christopher Avenue.  The posted speed limit on Christopher Avenue is 30 miles per hour. Jurisdictions within Montgomery County were granted the authority to operate the cameras in 2006.  Conducted in conjunction with the City of Rockville, the Town of Chevy Chase and Montgomery County, Gaithersburg’s Safe Speed Program authorizes the use of the cameras in residential and school zones with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less.   The Gaithersburg Police Department conducted traffic surveys t...

Cleaning An Egged Car 11/07/11   Every now and then cars in our neighborhood have been egged.  So, many have asked how to remove the eggs. Ted Blitgen provided these tips for his Kentlands neighbors A solution for removing the egg:If you've ever been victimized by neighborhood pranksters or vandalism, you've likely had your car egged. While discovering an egged car is nerve racking, trying to remove the egg and yolk creates further irritation. The key is to remove the egg stain shortly after the incident.
