How the times have changed, not only the buildings, but the people. The Washington Grange (313 in North Plains, Oregon) has seen some major changes over the years. The first grange was built on the site you see below in the early 1900s and in 1951, the new grange was built. Below is the new grange and though it has seen some better days itself, it still stands for the community just as the day it did when it was built. Many weddings and other events have taken place here over the years and even parts of the original grange are still in use today as the roof of a local barn. (Unfortunately I couldn’t find it to get pictures) But, the grange has seen a change over the years in the number of people involved in it. It was just over 100 years ago that North Plains became North Plains and since that day that rich history and community has always been present. This wonderful community isn’t large, but got its name from Lewis and Clark who called the area the North Tualatin Plains. The community got a real boost because of the rich farm land and the railroad coming through in the early development of the community. The area around North Plains grew in to large communities, North Plains stayed small and today still has many farms that feed many of the farmer’s markets. Though most of the Portland area doesn’t qualify for 100% financing, North Plains does thanks to programs like the USDA home loan. Washington County Real Estate: I never thought about Oregon and the Civil War, but yesterday I got a history lesson. You see when I think of Oregon and the civil war the only thing that ever came to my mind would be football, but not anymore! Yesterday while out Geocaching with my family we came across a really cool Geocacher that likes to hide caches near cemeteries and then give you a little history lesson about them. Now, these weren’t just normal cemeteries, these were pioneer cemeteries and many have been hidden to the public for years. Well, yesterday upon finding one of these cool little hidden gems we discovered that we had some civil war veterans that after the war decided to call Oregon and Washington County home.
