Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Slade Strickland, Director of the Parks & Recreation Department, spoke to us. Here are some interesting tidbits from Slade's presentation: Slade has worked for the Town of Addison for 30 years. The Belt Line Road revitalization project is nearing completion. There will be a drip irrigation system for watering the plants and new lighting fixtures. The new water tower project is progressing. The bowl will be raised December 5-7th and it is a slow process. Market Report: Addison Texas, 3rd Quarter 2011. It's a good news, bad news scenario for Addison real estate.  The good news is, compared to the 3rd quarter of last year, the median sales price is up (from $252,000 to $260,947). But the bad news is that the number of sales decreased (from 23 to 14) and the total volume sold also decreased ($6,238,711 to $3,570,027). Other good news is that days on the market (DOM) for most of the single family and townhomes is down.  Sales for the lower priced condos, however, is way, way up.       Addison condo complexes are not on the FHA approved list and this makes the condos more difficult to sell.  It takes either a cash buyer, or a buyer with a good sized downpayment to complete a condo purchase. Pokes Neighborhood Grill: New in Addison. Kyle Hungerford, the owner and general manager of Pokes, the new sports bar & grill in town, is a Cowboys fan. The Oklahoma State University Cowboys.  He greeted my client and me personally when we stopped in on Saturday afternoon for a quick bite between showing appointments. This month, Tim Hastings, Environmental Health Specialist, spoke to us. Shakespeare in the Park: Addison Circle Park. "Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him...". Hamlet will be performed by the Dallas Shakespeare in the Park cast October 5-9 and October 12-16, 2011 in Addison Circle Park, Addison TX.  General admission is $10, and $7 for students and seniors. Free for children under 10.  Showtime is 8:00 pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the gate or through ShakespeareDallas.org. On Wednesday, the performance is FREE, but a $10 donation is requested. Addison Semi-Annual Garage Sale: Saturday, October 1, 2011. It's almost time for my favorite Addison event: the community garage sale! Under the big tent in the Sam's Club parking lot is where you will find hundreds of shoppers making purchases and finding bargains from dozens of Addison residents selling their unwanted items.  Although the event officially opens at 8:00 am to the public, savvy shoppers arrive at dawn when the locals set up and unload their boxes and trunks.  Addison, Texas residents can also recycle old computers and peripheral devices in the parking lot.  Hard drives will be sanitized accoring to the standards of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
