Get Social at The Social House in Addison, Texas.  Billing itself as a "supper pub" the Social House has relocated from the Uptown area of Dallas to Village on the Parkway in Addison.  The 75 item menu features contemporary American cuisine plus 50 types of beer on tap and a 50 bottle wine list. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4 to 6:30 pm at the Social House. I got there just in time earlier this week to take advantage of the reduced prices and enjoyed a libation out on the patio.  The food was great and the service exceptional. If you'd like to try the Social House for yourself, the hours of operation are daily, 4:00 pm until 2:00 am. Stop by 5100 Belt Line Road, Suite #410 in Addison (the old Dalt's location for the long time area residents). This is just down from the back ...

You Didn't Know You Had a Foreclosure in Your Past? Really? I have very patient sellers.  Their Addison, Texas condo is for sale and a buyer with a pre-approval letter made an offer.  After some negotiations through her agent, the details were firmed up, we went under contract, got through inspections and had an appraisal.  Smooth sailing towards closing, right? Wrong! Although the pre-approving loan officer ran a credit check, she did not search public records.  With six years of great rental history and an ok credit score, the buyer looked good on paper. But the underwriter dug deeper .... and uncovered a deed in lieu from 6 years ago, plus foreclosure proceedings by this buyer's former homeowners association.  Ouch! So the loan officer decided to try to switch this buyer from a conve...

Dream BIG in Addison, Texas. As a member of Addison's newly formed Bond Evaluation Committee, the 42 other members and I were tasked last night by the Mayor to dream BIG. The committee was formed to consider issues that might require the issuance of bonds by the Town to fund capital projects that can't be supported by current annual revenues. We got a crash course in financing the future through municipal bonds and learned that Addison's fiscal year tax rate for 2012 is just $0.1981. Addison's policy is the rapid retirement of debt (within 15 years) except when capital improvements will benefit the community beyond that period of time (like the Vitruvian Park project). Addison has a AAA rating with Standard & Poor and an Aa1 rating with Moody.  Our tax base is $3B. Residential property ...

Addison Texas Market Report: August 2010 vs August 2011. Single family homes are selling well in Addison. Although down in dollar volume from a year ago, the median sales price is up.  There are very few Addison homes in the under $150,000 range (with the exception of condos, and they are not included in the information below). Last year's tax credit skewed that data up to this point, but we are beginning to see a truer picture.  Positive influencers for this year's numbers include the low, low, low interest rates, local jobs creation, and a healthy regional economy.  Negatives include high unemployment and a low consumer confidence. Addison Residential Single Family Sales 2010 to 2011 Comparison         August, 2010 August, 2011 Sold Volume $2,961,640 $2,214,433 # of Sales 10 9 Median ...

Breaking News in Addison, Texas! Addison will be getting a new 12-screen movie theater if the property manager at Village on the Parkway (formerly Sakowitz Village) is to be believed. Susan Boze of Connected Management Services attended the Visit Addison open house this afternoon and I had the opportunity to talk to her there.  The row of restaurants and retail along the southernmost part of the complex will be raised, from the Dream Cafe at one end to the Original Pancake House at the other end, and the theater, with retail space below, will take its place. The old Studio Movie Grill on Prestonwood Road, although calling itself an Addison theater, was actually located within the Dallas city limits. Addison did have a movie theater years ago. It was in the space that is now the visitor ...

Townhomes of District A is a terrific little community within Addison Circle with its residents enjoying many great benefits.  One of the largest benefits is the sense of community and togetherness residents maintain.  With community functions taking place year round, it is very easy to get to know your neighbors and others living near by.  During the summer it is not uncommon for there to be small festivals on Saturdays with Salsa dancing or other terrific get togethers.  In September residents enjoy Oktoberfest where nearly 50,000 people come to enjoy the festivities.  At any given time one can go for a walk through Addison Circle and find residents out walking dogs enjoying the beautiful weather or stopping into one of the many nearby restaurants or shops.  Within a few blocks, you c...

You've heard of the "dog days of summer" but now the Town of Addison is putting a twist on the phrase. The outdoor pool at the Addison Athletic Club is scheduled to close (for humans) on Labor Day.  However, the annual doggy splash day will be held on Saturday morning, September 10th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. If you are an Addison resident with a membership card to the AAC (one-time $10 fee for as long as you live in town), come out and support the dogs! All participating dogs must have a 2010 or 2011 rabies tag or proof of vaccination. The fee is $5 per dog. Humans will not be allowed to swim.
