Historic Downtown Wylie Texas  75098   The City of Wylie was incorporated in 1887 along the rights-of-way of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. It was named for Colonel W.D. Wylie, a Santa Fe Railroad official and Civil War veteran.  By 1890, Wylie's population had increased to 239 and it's first one-room school was built. After years of staying put, Americans are on the move again. But they aren't going very far. Roughly 12.5 percent of the US population, or 37.1 million people moved to a new home in 2009. This is up form 11.9 percent or 35.2 million in 2008, according to census figures. While it was the first percentage gain in the U.S. since 2005 mobility levels remain historically low. Interestingly, nearly all the new moves in 2009 also occurred within the same county! Adults ages 25-39, about one in four changed residences. Most held off moving for the following reasons: to get married to pursue a new job to pursue an advanced degree The most common reasons cited for moving were desire to live in a better neighborhood, to be near family or moving for their job.
