I wasn't married to my sailor in 15th century.  Dave is 27 year navy veteran.

I just had a bad dream after reading Sam Shueh's comment. I'll roll the dice on sheep bestiality being the cause.

I'm stumped! Can't say I've ever given any thought to 15th century sailors, or 16th century sailors for that matter. I'll take a guess that it's drowning and/or scurvy.

As with many others, my answer would be scurvy. It'll probably be something like too much grog.

I am pretty sure it was Scurvy but what I cant remember is why I would know that....

Just the 15th century.  My first answer was scurvy, but what was happening in the 1400's.  Lots of discovery.  Death by natives?

Scurvy?  Rose's Lime Juice helped w/ that but it was much later.

My best guess would be scurvy also, caused by the lack of vitamin C. I'm with Carol Williams.

I heard it was a sheep carrier disease. Some shepards contracted it(do not want to know what boys did to the sheep) and became sailors. Columbus sailors brought it to Europe. Before you knew Syph**** spreaded all over. It can cause disfiguring. I recall seening faked nose at museum was used to hide disfigured body.....
