Ginger Harper I had the pleasure of living in Rome from July 2012 to July 2016.  It is by far one of the most wonderful cities on Earth.  You can't go wrong with any suggestions you get.  And sometimes just going into a neighborhood for the day and having lunch and asking the locals what they recommend will turn out to be off the tourist circuit places that are most charming.

OMG the list is so long, and having only been there once I would want to revisit  but see new places, too. I would definitely be back to see all the Vatican has to offer, but also to see the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. There are wonderful piazzas to visit, too. The list goes on...

I've been there twice and may have opportunity in 2018 to go a 3rd time.

Florence; been to Rome many times.

I've been to Rome... the Vatican, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain were my first stops. After that, the coliseum and as many churches as I could manage.

There is this scantily clad angel at the Vatican that is carved out of the most beautiful marble I've ever seen.  I'd love to go back to visit him.

If you're going to Rome, please send us back loads of photos!  It's an amazing city with the best olive oil on the planet.

What Jeff Dowler & Debbie Gartner said!  We were there last year this time and those places were on our tour list as well - loved everything we saw!  You can't go wrong just BEING there!  ;-)

Love Rome but so much more to see throughout the country. But, you have to see Rome.

I've been to Rome twice and you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions. If this isn't a hypothetical question, have a great time and if you have time - take a trip to Florence too.

Also, The Colosseum, The Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps, Bocca della Verita' (to rein-act Roman Holiday), The Pantheon and The Vatican (although tecnically you are leaving Rome to do so).

I love Rome and have been many times..love the Spanish steps..going back next summer..have some special restaurants love to go visit again.

The countryside more than anything else. Are you leaving for Rome?

The airport, the sky, the next airport, the first cafe, the first piazza, the normal touristy things, a walk on a canal, al fresco dining, and on and on...

The Sistine Chapel - But get there very early, before the lines form. And watching Roma play at Olympic Stadium.

So much to see, we have spent many happy days there.  Everything the guide books tell you, but the best part is hanging out and understanding the Italian lifestyle!  We have been there 7 times in our lives!  We love Italy.  When are you leaving? Is it tomorrow? 

I went there many years back.  Saw the Trevi Fountain, the zoo, the Vatican and many of the typical touristy places.  The hotel I stayed in was on the far side of a park from the tourist zone and required a cab ride in and out every day.  The food by the hotel was MUCH better than in the tourist areas.  Had a pizza there that made Dominoes taste gourmet!

The list is long but don't miss the Coloseum and the Vatican.

Oh wow! Rome is one of those cities I've always wanted to visit.  I'd probably start with museums, but I'd want to see the Vatican as well.

I can tell you what I wouldn't want to see.  I wouldn't want to see the engine on fire. 

I love Rome and would revisit everything, including what Jeff Dowler listed! We found that the best restaurants were often the least expensive and where the locals would eat.

Ginger,  I hope this means you ARE going to Rome.  It is amazing.  I suggest you take a tour first, to get your bearings, and decide what you want to do from there.  The architecture and history is so interesting.  Depending on how long you're there... get out of the city and enjoy the countryside.
