I would guess in Baltimore homes are inspected every day. Are you willing to work hard for your fair share?

My nail chick was just asking me about this. Okay, so first fulfill State requirements, probably including apprenticeship. Figure out how much money you need to make and how much you will need to charge in order to be competitive, work out a business plan. Then you need to figure out how many homes are sold in your market area. That shouldn't be hard, public record. Then anticipate what your market share might be keeping in mind that when you start it'll be a slow grow. What kind of cost will be involved? You'll need to be heavily insured and bonded. Inspections take several hours so realistically you probably can't do more than one or two per day. You may want to also get licensed as a pest inspector and incorporate that into your inspections. Many do.

As long as homes are being sold, there will be a market.
However, the challenge is not about the existing market but how you will connect to your potential customer.
Most inspectors create working relationships with the rainmakers.
Others depend on the franchise they work for.
And still others are business owners who know they must invest in local advertising to attract citizen buyers and sellers.
Asking if there is a market suggests more research is needed.
HINT: meet-up with a few rainmakers and develop solutions that create distinction.

Great information from others here. I suggest that you also talk to at least three local inspection companies to get an idea of what to expect and, perhaps, if there are hiring inspectors.
There would be as major difference, of course, in starting your own company and starting as an inspector for an established inspection company.
Good luck!

Of course. Many questions of you are sure to follow. Try answering those questions yourself. What is your previous experience? Do you know people? How do you want to start? Why should someone hire you? Either as an employee or as an inspector? These questions are not in any order but hopefully gives you a start with some serious self-talk as well as getting to understand the market.

I have no idea. Do your research and conduct your own due diligence on the market. Find out who the top inspectors are ... if there are top inspectors. How many homes are sold in a month/year on average? The list goes on and on. I wish you all the best.

I'd look at how many homes sell in a given month and try and figure out how many inspectors there are. Then determine if the ratio of inspectors to sales is good enough for you. That's a basic level. Probably best to also contact the inspector association/trade group/etc. to see what it's like for their members. Be aware, they may try and sell you.
