Nothing surprises me anymore. The evil and corruption live on.

There are rogues and crooks in every business and in every industry. There does not seem to be any evidence of any wave of mortgage fraud these days. Yet...we would not know until it was uncovered, would we?

I haven't been aware of loan fraud Gary. But it doesn't surprise me as this stuff pops up everywhere from time to time. Or maybe it's always there...

Can't say I've seen mortgage fraud ever in my own 30 years in real estate... I've known of cases where it was caught in the Charlotte market, but not something I think about.

No but with interest rates rising, it may happen. I cannot believe what she did.

There always that element in any industry, Gary. So glad she got caught and hope she goes to prison as an example to others who might thinking about doing the same!

Where there is a will there is a way as they say. Luckily, I have not seen any in quite some time.

One allegedly fraudulent mortgage broker does not equate to a trend in mortgage fraud.
I'm not sure how many it takes to call it a trend, but it definitely takes more than one.

The crooks are alive and well. Overt criminality will never go away.
What I have seen recently is direct affiliation between lenders and appraisers again. In this case it was a credit union. We know what happened the last go-around.
Homeowners are defenseless against some of the strategies and can only prevail long after the property has been stolen and owned by another with the full participation of the LEOS and courts.

It seems all area of RE go through cycles, we may be getting ready for a shift in this segment also.

It may not be a new generation, it may be the same ole same ole "business is slow and I have bills to pay" recipe popular with those of loose morals and no values or personal principles.

Haven't seen any or heard of any new local cases. Georgia had a LOT in the beginning of the crash.

This story has gone viral in the mortgage social media sites. I believe fraud will always be present, which is unfortunate. In this specific case, the level of fraud & misrepresentation was fairly historic. Falsifying court documents and forging judges signatures is sure to get you sent to Club Fed for decades.

I get the fraud report every month & as far as I know, it is not increasing. I'm sure people can figure a way around anything.
