Elzie Crisler was born in Chester, Illinois back in 1894. As a child he helped his father house painting and paper hanging. He was skilled at playing drums which he put to use providing musical accompaniment to films and vaudeville acts in the local theater.When he turned 18 he took a correspondence course from W.L. Evans of Cleveland, Ohio after work he lit up the oil lamps around midnight and worked on that course until 3 AM. He moved to Chicago and worked for the Chicago Herald moving forward he went to work for King Features Syndicate and the New York Journal. William Lawrence was born in Hendrysburg, Ohio back in 1895 to Charles and Lida. He was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma however when his father died he moved to California. He worked as an orange picker, surveyor, tool dresser and automobile salesman. He also found extra work in the movie industry.When WWI started he enlisted in the army but was exempt because of a “weak heart”. He continued working getting part time roles gradually working his way up until he became famous as a leading man in silent film romances earing an annual salary of $100,000.00, quite a hefty sum then.In 1936 he was offered a supporting role in a film however, he asked for the title role and won it. Caleb was born in Chinquapin, North Carolina back in 1867. Not much is written about his childhood or parents so we’ll move on. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to the University of Maryland School of Medicine.He had to drop out because of his father’s business going bankrupt. He returned to North Carolina where he taught school for a little while. He opened up a drug store in New Bern. Roy Boehm was born in Brooklyn, New York back in 1924. At the tender age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He became a diver and saw action in the Pacific theater during WWII. He first served aboard the USS Duncan a Gleaves-class destroyer. The ship entered Pearl Harbor for last minute repairs and refitting before going out to sea. His first assignment was to help recover munitions and body’s from the Pearl Harbor attack.He was assigned with salvaging the sunken USS Arizona. He confessed the recovering of dead sailors so distressing. He served in one of the largest “all surface” sea engagement of the war the Battle of Cape Esperance at Guadalcanal. Robert Abbe was born in New Your City back in 1851. He received his education at the College of the City of New York and Columbia University receiving his MD in 1874. From 1877 and 1884 he served as surgeon and professor of surgery at the New York Hospital and the New York Babies Hospital. At 16 after the death of his father he worked as a surveying assistant to help support this family.In the evening hours his time was devoted to scientific pursuits-primarily electrical one. in 1880 he attempted to see a battery of his design to Thomas Edison. Edison recognizing his talents wound up hiring him on the spot.
