This is a thought that has gone through most of our minds. I know it has mine, when I have filed a claim. This is a legitimate fear that comes with filing an insurance claim; for either your Auto or Homeowner’s Policy. Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule to figure out if you will be dropped. However, what I can do is share my experiences with you to help you make a decision.  First and foremost, we buy insurance to protect ourselves and our families for the “what if’s” in life. Insurance exists for life’s risks, to help us through a possible “what if”. What is a risk? In insurance a risk is considered the uncertainty that we face in life and business every day. It is the uncertainty of an outcome.  Insurance is quoted based on hazards. A hazard is a condition that increases t...

Is mold a topic that is worth losing sleepover? With so many “professional” opinions that are floating around the internet, this is a question that has a lot of people divided. Some authorities on this subject feel that mold is a topic that has been hyped up for the sake of marketing, and poses no real long-term effects to people who are exposed to it. Yet scientific research shows that certain strands can produce mycotoxins, which are in fact highly carcinogenic to human beings. Whatever side of this debate you decide to align yourself with, keep in mind that mold, as it appears in nature, serves one purpose, and that is to be a decomposer, or nature’s trash crew! Whenever you come into contact with something that has been designed by evolution to decompose and break down organic mater...

Living on High Rock Lake is great! There are a couple of draw backs though. First it is a long commute to nearby big cities. Second, there are not a lot of local choices when it comes to food and shopping. Speaking of food I have to give a plug for Southern BBQ in Southmont, they have great service and awesome food. Thats about all the drawbacks... The good stuff is everything else! The summer is great since you can play on and in the water. Fishing is some of the best around. I think the winter is one of my favorite times to be living on the lake. The boat traffic is very slim and if you go out on a weekday, it is like having the whole lake to yourself. Also, I see more wildlife like the Bald Eagle I saw last summer. This is a great time to buy on the lake also since intrest rates are ...

If you are a camper at Foster's Pointe you need to attend an important meeting being held at the High Rock Boat Dock on Tuesday Nov. 6th and Sat Nov 10th. Here is the summary:As some of you may know, the investment LLC in which Barry and I are members currently has Foster's Point under contract, scheduled to close in early 2008.  Our intent is to improve the property and sell the campground, as an RV Park, to as many of the existing campers as possible via a membership in a new corporation that will own the property.  If there are any "slots" left after the campers are presented the opportunity, it will be offered first to this mailing list (our friends and neighbors), and then to the public at large.  Although our attorneys are continuing to finalize the details, we are conducting 2 in...

High Rock Lake water levels are really dipping!! Many boats and piers are on the ground with no signs of water levels coming up. There is some mention of possible rain this weekend, but it really needs to be a lot in order raise these water levels. With High Rock being down about 7 feet rain would be a gift right now! It has been so dry that we have not mowed our grass since the first week in July! The lake is very quite now not a lot of boat traffic (since many are on the ground). Fisherman can have a great time and not be disturbed by all the lake traffic. ALCOA is trying to keep levels up but they can only work with what water comes into the lake, which right now is not much. Boat ramps are steep but still usable in some places. Real estate is a little harder to sell with low water l...

Who loves High Rock Lake? I love High Rock Lake! Living on the lake is one of the most wonderful parts of my life. High Rock is one of the largest lakes in North Carolina with 15,250 acres 366 Miles of shoreline. There is enough room for jet skis, power boats, sail boats, fisherman, and all the recreational users that visit. Real estate on the lake is for the most part reasonable. It has really increased in value over the last few years though. There are a few homes that cost a million or more but there a lot of homes around the $300K mark. You can still find some old fisherman shacks  and trailers that are in the $200s. The fishing is awesome! I have caught many large flathead catfish in the lake. Also largemouth bass, sunfish, black and white crappie, carp, channel cats, a few blue ca...
