Mother's Day can bring joy to our mom's and maternal friends or sometimes just memories in Bronxville, NY 10708For most, Mother's Day is a time to celebrate our biggest fan and maternal guide...our Mom. Other dear friends of mine in Westchester County and beyond have lost their mothers, years ago or just in recent years. Some of us may have that dreaded mother / daughter dynamic in play or just live far away from each other. While others may have been raised in part by a grandmother, who is no longer on the planet, in my case. Grandma Jean passed in 2011 at 93 years old from Alzheimers. Her daughter and my aunt was also a huge motherly influence on me. She was my "big sister" from birth really, but from the age of 16 up when I moved in with them. Carol is gone as well -- at only...

FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY 10708 THROUGH MIDDAY - CHECK LOCAL ALERTS FOR BRONXVILLE NY 10708 With "Winter Storm Boreas" traveling out of here for Thanksgiving, we are left with flood warnings from all the rain last night. At 9:05 today a FLASH FLOOD Warning was reported for Westchester County. That's after about 3 inches of rain fell in the past 24 hours, with another 1 to 2 inches possible through Noon today. We are fielding flooded basement and lower level basement calls today and all weekend to dry carpet and prevent a mold "chaser" to our Thanksgiving dinners! Officials are reporting excessive runoff from this heavy rainfall and it may cause flooding in small creeks and streams, across parkways and roads. WHAT TO DO / NOT TO DO ON A FLOODED ROAD ...AND KEE...

A HOME FIRE CAN BE DEVASTATING TO FAMILIES, THEIR BELONGINGS & BUSINESSES OWNERS, TOO, IN FACT, SOME CAN'T MAKE IT BACK AFTER THE FIRE DAMAGE ~ Bronxville, NY 10708 We are seeing so many appliance, smoking and cooking fires in Westchester County this fall. There were three in just the past 48 hours...and -- all but the one with no injuries, thank God. One was actually due to an old, tube TV that overtaxed a wall socket and sparked a wall / socket fire -- could have been prevented. Our crews have arrived after an emergency call to help a home or business owner -- from Harrison to Tarrytown and down to Scarsdale, Bronville and Eastchester -- with fire clean ups. The firemen had saved their home or business and now someone had to professionally clean it up. The hard part ...

It's that time of year again...to "Fall Back," turn the clock "back" and get our hour back! I just love this time of year. The colors, light and leaves are on fire, in their last hoorah before winter arrives. Also, we get that hour back that we lost when we "sprang forward" for daylight savings in the Spring. I just miss that hour of sleep ALL year! Before you go to bed this Saturday night, Nov 2nd, turn those clocks back by an hour. Remember that we "Spring forward" an hour each Spring and "Fall Back" at this time of year. But, times change and we're a month off for both spring and fall time change, as of 2005 (read more below). You can read below about a so-called energy savings measure that extended the months we spring or fall in and out of daylight savings, below! Ac...

Thoughts for Thursday as fall flowers are in full bloom & memories of bright mums come back into focus Don't mums say "Fall Flowers' or WHAT? My grandmother loved fall mums and we always tried to have them on hand for her Halloween birthday on the 31st. She passed away a couple of years ago at 93. But, whenever I see the mums pop, bringing the last of the year's blooms into focus, Gram comes to mind...with love and nice Fall memories. Stop and enjoy the flowers today, if you can!

Flooding Summer Rains and extra showers may cause hot water heaters to fail & flood basements from Eastchester to Bronxville, NY 10708 It must be all of the showers we're seeing this summer, with a total of 4" above normal as of August. Even with this lovely cool down in southern Westchester County, NY, the water table levels are still up. So in some flood prone areas the lower Hud, in parts of Bronxville 10708, we're seeing flooded basements. Most are due to appliance malfunctions or power issues, so that the home or business owner's sump pump is not working, or their hot water heater just gives up. Add in a hard rain from our summer thunderstorms and it can be a recipe for basement disaster. For homes that are on the market, be sure to check those lower levels, before taking...
