I previously wrote about the Monarch Butterfly nursery on our back patio on April 12. At that time we were able to see 11 caterpillars of various sizes. In the last few days the caterpillars started leaving the milkweed plants and crawling onto the table, the patio window, and the edge of one of the flowerpots. Within a day or so we could only find 3 of the 11 caterpillars. Hopefully the others found safe places to hang for the next stage, the chrysalis (pupa). We have looked around but haven't been able to find them so they are either well hidden or perhaps became some bird's dinner. One caterpillar is on the edge of a flowerpot and is not looking very healthy, but there are 2 that have now formed the chrysalis - one on window frame (above) and the other on the edge of the another flower...

As with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a whole, the northeast region is rich with history. Across the Pocono Mountains, there are historic landmarks and museums to commemorate its place in history. Much of this history is rooted in deep ties to coal mining, an industry that had a stronghold across the region in the 19th century. If you’re looking for a break from the abundance of activities in nature that the Poconos provides, consider taking a trip back in time by visiting one of the region’s mining villages. Eckley Miners Village Museum is located in Weatherly, PA; found in the mid 1800s, Eckley provides a picture of a typical planned coal mining town. These towns were built for miners and their families, and provide a backdrop for understanding some of the economic and cultural ...

. We were all starving after looking at our New Kitchen plans for a house we are renovating. We realized we werejust around the corner from the Fireside Tavern . We knew it was going to be very busy , but it was only 5:15and we got a seated right away . It turned out to be Prime Rib Night and it did not disappoint. My Daughter ordered two 4.5 oz Crab Cakes ( all meat - no filler). My wife had Pino Grigio and I had an ice cold Draft . The Dessert menu was excellent. Needless to say , we will be going back soon . The Tavern is a 1/2 mile from the Strasburg Railroad and PA Train Museum.

This Week…Free Time In a chat with a good friend, we discussed the importance of our free time. I also think of it as ME Time. Primates are super smart and organized just enough to devote their free time to being miserable to each other and stressing each other out. Robert SapolskyShe’d had family in for 12 days.  They took a few day trips and were easy to have around,  but she missed her free time.  No such thing as spare time, no such thing as free time. No such thing as down time. All you got is life time Henry RollinsThis week has been not as busy as hers but I too need my ME time…where I’m free to do what I choose to do…nothing hanging over my head. The way we live is changing. Each year, our free time shrinks a little more as computers clamor for an increasing percentage of our at...

In life we all experience the quiet times, relishing in them, playing catch up with paperwork or just enjoying a book and then suddenly out of the blue chaos happens. The phone rings and as you are speaking with one person another call happens. You are working on cleaning up emails and suddenly 10 new emails come in with at least half demanding your immediate attention. Then your smart phone receives several texts with even more requests.Yikes!"When we learn if we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." Wayne DyerChaos allows us to learn how to better manage what we can control. To have processes and systems in place to respond both efficiently and effectively to all those requests.Today started out quiet. There was a mild breeze through the office window. I hea...

Thanks to Timmothy's comic strip today I found some wonderful perspectives on intended behavior.I've assumed positive intent with every person I've encountered. Not only did it enabled me to become a better human being, also, in most cases has benefitted the other person. Dux Raymond SyBe aware: When you catch yourself assigning negative intent to someone, take a step back and breathe.Assuming positive intent can be healthy for relationships, and some say it can lead to less stress and happier people around you.I "intend" to apply positive intent to others actions, today and in the future.

Besides providing Feng Shui Consultations, Reiki Healing sessions and more, I've been playing for local bands based out of Long Island, Brooklyn and New York City. I had the pleasure of joining forces with Dan Strauss and Zigline to perform at Shrine World Music Venue in Harlem, NY on Wednesday night (April 17th, 2024). The evening was filled with soothing eclectic experimental sounds featuring Dan Strauss as the lead vocalist on guitar, Todd Rogers on violin, Raymond Russel on bass and myself, Laura Cerrano on percussion. To watch a live recording of our performance you can click on this link, Dan Strauss and Zigline at Shrine World Music Venue in Harlem, NY. Enjoy!P.s. this is an example of living the Feng Shui lifestyle.  In this case, it was planting a seed of an idea that brought j...

Friday Flags in Cheshire CTThe flag today comes from a plot of ground in front of a colonial structure that was once a thriving business.  Now called the Ball & Socket arts building, it offers attractions and areas to exhibit for local artists. In its heyday, it was a stamping plant that made all manner of buttons, some of which adorned the military uniforms during the Civil War.Back in the late 1980's the company was bought by Waterbury Companies and their museum was merged with that plants.A factory with a proud heritage and once the source of work for so many now has a different audience, but the flag still waves proudly.Friday Flags in Cheshire CT

Friday Fun…Where Do You Begin Your Reading? Most of us have routines for many of the things we do. We have a daily routine when we get up in the morning, what we do when we arrive at work, and what we do when we return home.  So…what’s your ActiveRain routine?  Where do you go first to start reading? Is it the Q&A?   The Featured (or front) page? A particular group such as Bananatude or Bartender Make It a Double? Or perhaps you begin with the Blogroll? And since we’re on the topic… When do you begin your ActiveRain Day?  Some begin early before they begin work, some at the end of the day, and others pop in during the day.   Me? I begin my day reading a handful of members who I know post early in the day.  I do the bulk of my reading in the evening but also try to pop in during the day. ...

As a parent, when your child asks you for a pet, be sure you learn as much as you can about that pet before you say yes. Chances are, you the parent, are going to be taking care of the pet and not your child. Not knowing the needs of your new pet is why our animal shelters are overflowing and good animals are being euthanized.Dogs, cats, birds, fish, and even reptiles have unique needs... just like YOU! Take responsibility and know those needs. We have had many pets in the Timm household but not a one was adopted before each member of the household read two books on each pet. For us that included guinea pigs, hamster, and parakeets. The subjects of Timmothy's cartoon are guinea pigs. Knowing the proper diet of your pet is essential. The preferred basic diet for guinea pigs is unlimited amo...
