When I speak in investor meetings in California I always have one a suite and tie or sportcoat and tie and usually the only one doing that. I believe in dressing upscale because when someone buys 5 properties at a time they need a sense of confidence in you and it helps.

Khakis, polo shirt (most likely black), loafers. $50k buyer or $500k buyer or seller, it's going to be the same. I put on a suit for a funeral...maybe. Bill

I always dress professionally. I remember going to a listing to meet a buyer's agent and their client and I had no idea which one was the agent. The agent actually looked like he was going fishing. His clients were embarrassed and actually changed agents.

My market is just not a 'fussy' kind of place. Folks are down to earth and nobody really cares about impressing others with their clothes etc - except in one area of town! I dress appropriately for the occasion. Suits? Nobody wears suits here except attorneys and politicians and even they don't when it's so darn hot outside.

Nathan,
I believe in dressing appropriately for each event, and according to the marketplace. In Santa Barbara the ones wearing suits and ties are lawyers or bankers. On a listing presentation here, the style is casual elegant. A

I dress professionally and for success every day of my life when I might be with clients. It's part of my persona and people let it. I don't dress as formally in Charlotte as I did in NYC, but it's never overly casual as I'm not casual about my business.

I dress as appropriate. If my clients are wearing baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt or sweat shirt, I see no reason to be wearing a suit. I also see no reason for me to be wearing sweatpants. I wear slacks and a knit top or a blouse. I will wear nice jeans (nice meaning, no holes, or heavily worn) on occassion as well. Always clean. Always respectable.

I wear what I want and not to impress others and I don't care whether others like it or not. If I am meeting clients I don't wear my ripped jeans (though I do wear them around town where I may run into clients), but I am still fairly casual. Jeans or knee length skirt and nicer flip flop sandals (or boots in winter) are generally my work attire. John is pretty casual too. We are still successful despite what others may say about us not dressing up more and I am happier in comfortable clothing that I want to wear. We do live in an outdoorsy, casual place though so perhaps we get away with it more here than we would in other places. -Kasey

Some days it's a suit. Some days it's a button up and jeans. Some days it's business casual. Depends on how I feel and what's planned for the day. In the dog days of summer, it tends to get more casual as it's too hot out for a suit.

I dress as appropritate for the event. Out here black jeans and a polo shirt are good for most things. Some times higher end listing appointments call for slacks, but not always. When I'm out and about and not in real estate mode, I dress for comfort (cargo pants/shorts, boots/sandals and a t-shirt).

Shirt and tie 6 days per week 8a-6p, it's who I am after 35 years working in The Bay Area, it was expected there, especially in San Francisco. Silicon Valley has made the Bay Area more casual (sloppy) but I march to my own drum at this point.
Here I am with Jack Canfield (and my lovely bride Ailina)...see you never know who you'll bump into...so dress to impress for success!

First meeting with a client or customer, or appointment with lenders or attorneys, speaking at an event, or attending a Closing - I wear a coat, tie, and cuff links. That's not to impress; it's who I am.
Of course if I am showing land, or foreclosures with the power turned off, etc. then I wear business casual.

My work is mostly at the office and I typically dress more formally than most Central Oregonians. But if I were showing property, I would dress for the type of property I would show. For instance, when you are walking bare land, heals don't work!

We're in the "Wine Country" so the old notions of "Dress for Success" went out the window years ago. When I got in the business in 1978 Ties, suits, etc were the "Statement"--think Trumps ongoing wardrobe but with the tie a LOT shorter! Power suits. I never was a power suit guy except for a brief time in the late 80's. I have a tie on today because I just like getting "dressed up" and lookng sharp! However, when I'm showing country property its Khaki's, boots, polo shirt. Our Millennial agents either are suit and tie or levis, white shirt and 3 day old beards!

I dress for comfort for sure. Plus most of the time I am bouncing between cattle and real estate, I do not want to chase cattle in heels and a dress ever again! I do make sure they are clean and if the occasion calls for fancier dress I can accommodate that. My normal is jeans, boots, a nice shirt or a nice hoodie in the fall and winter.

I dress to impress. Even when meeting long time clients, I still dress in at least business casual. However I did go meet a client once who sent me back to change into something less fussy and more comfortable. He told me to lose my jacket and tie and to go put in jeans...
