And, yes, I read things - I'm a 'fast' (not speed!) reader but, for me, it's peace of mind to read and question things - always.

EVERYTHING goes out first as a draft. Reviewed and explained. Then it is tabbed for signature. The only exception is repeat clients who have done the same paperwork over time.

I do read through stuff. I cover the highlights with my clients when they sign things. Some clients just want to sign without any discussion although I always insist that we do review the key provisions. Other clients read every word before they sign.

As for your veterinary experience... you would have heard me shouting from Charotte to Florida if that happened to me.

I do and it annoys the heck out of people. Good thing you were on top of it and read that form!

A couple years ago we bought a new car for my husband and we were sitting in the "business manager's" office to sign papers. He handed it to my husband to sign without proofing it and my husband started to sign without reading it.

I grabbed those papers and started reading...they had us buying a Nissan Armada instead of the Murano Platinum and the price was wrong!

A few years ago my sellers received an offer and came to my office to sign. They were so excited they started initialing as the buyer. Luckily I had a clean copy of the contract so they could start over and sign as the sellers.

Depends on what it is.

Our contract is 10 pages before you get the and many pages of disclosures. HOA packages run easily over 100 pages. Do our clients read them? They sign saying they do.

OMG!  And 'whoa!'  Happy Cat is still meant to be with you Fred Griffin  . . .  Yes, I do skim long multiple page forms by paragraph.  If it's just a 1 or 2 pager, I skim it line by line.  Regarding 'any' forms our clients sign, we go over them in more detail, explaining what each paragraph in each section is about.  Then we also give them time to reread or go back over, as they are asking questions, if any, while we are explaining.  We strong feel they need to understand the forms, even if it at first appears like a daunting task.  Some items are mentioned each time we get together, i.e., Wire Fraud, etc.

Important to know what you are signing makes it all the more clear that the complicated and mountainous forms that are signed in real estate... can anyone really know everything they are signing.

When you sign medical consent forms you have to say you understand what you are signing. I doubt unless the signer is both an MD and a Lawyer they probably don't completely understand

Yes.  It is important to know what you are signing.

When it comes to my clients, I make sure to explain even boiler plate documents to them before the sign.  Never will catch me saying, "Sign here," as a stand alone statement.

Yes, I do review everything before I sign. AND I get a copy of everything I sign before I leave the building.  A recent visit to a doctor for an annual lady exam, the medical report had me listed as a male.  Good Grief.

Yikes!  Like when the doctor operated on the WRONG knee.  I typically read the highlights but not all the boiler plate.  I've only once had a client read the contract (he was a lawyer).  It's not like they can change anything in the state's contract, but they still read it.

Glad the kitty is doing well.

Wow!  Next time that kitty-cat gives you the whisker rub, you can smile and know Happy Cat will never know.

What I know with certainty. Those who read turn a listing appointment into all all day affair.  How does an agent appear attentive and intelligent while the client rereads 3 pages of boiler plate followed by those pages with the "Fill in the Blank" options.

I do not read line by line the State of Florida standard forms. I DO READ those proprietary forms used by Coldwell Banker and other companies.

There IS a reason they don't use the standard.
