when the disrespect and abuse from them  has you shopping for laser scopes and hollow points on Amazon, it's time to fire them. OK clearly satire, I was just sick of the verbal abuse and negativity 100% of the time I was around them. I let $24,000 in commissions go for peace of mind.

(1) When they don't listen to you regarding staging, making their home available for showings, reducing the price as needed.

(2) When they become disrespectful or accusatory that the lack of a sale is totally your fault when it's not and when you can prove that everything that could possibly be done to market their home has been done and then some.

(3) When you dread having to deal with them or are even asking this particular question.

(4) When you've brought them excellent offers and they refuse to accept or even negotiate.

(5) When all of the above come into play, run Forrest, run!

Such people can be managed. At the very least the environment in which they are encountered can be managed.

"I hear you are very upset. Tell me more."  When people are caught in the midst of a life fraught with danger, they tend to want to take it out on those they see as disposable.......until those people prove themselves otherwise.

But when the seller reveals they have counter-intentions to selling their real estate, that is a clear indicator of a time-hole. Time to say "Good-bye."

At times such as described, the thought of a Uber Type client rating system becomes attractive.

Don't we all time to time have this situation? 

I always compare a real estate transaction to relationship. It is a relationship. 

And from the day one I know, if it work for me. Sometimes I just want do not listen to myself and give a chance... and in many cases it does not work at all. 

As of today I don't put myself into it. Just walk away from the day one, if I feel it is not for me. Feels much better than to have regrets later.

I've only fired one in 40 years..... and that was one hour after the agreement was signed.... he began dictating to me.... bye-bye!!!!  removed the sign, lockbox, canceled MLS, and locked key inside the home.... called him and told him to list with another agent... he selected someone in my office who takes abuse!!!! and that agent WAS abused...but it sold and they were all happy.... 

I don't take abuse well!!!

I suppose for me it would come at a point if they aren't making good choices and I feel I can't help them reach their goals. Praful Thakkar  But for me that has only happened a very few times usually its a matter of making sure you address their concerns and explain how you can best help them to reach their goals. Its what they hire us for our expertise. They can get bad but well intentioned advice from friends family or neighbors that simply don't know anything about real estate.

When dealing with them is bringing too much stress and negativity into your life.  I try to take into account that they are under a great deal of stress themselves but I will not tolerate any verbal abuse or negativity. Better to let go and move on.
