Annette, when I raced mountain bikes, we typically burned 3800 calories per lap. Most of us did 2-3 laps in a 24 hour race. I always wore a heart-rate monitor to keep me aware of my condition at all phases of the laps I was on. My monitor also gave calories burned and time under stress. The average lap was 14 miles through the WV mountains. Grueling, but a lot of fun. The pain never affected my choices. We had a cook on our team who made sure we were always property ready for the next lap.

I eat "clean" and desserts are not on my menu .... I begin every morning with strength training and with that comes a rapid heart beat... 90 second span in between heart racing to repeat a set of 10-15 reps.... strength training increases your metabolism as well as toning muscles and gaining lean muscle to replace fat, if you have fat under your skin...

In regards to your question Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041 When you can relate consumption to pain, would it change your choices?
The pain is telling me it's time for another Boston Tea Party! What do you think Fred Griffin ?

I just don't consume and then don't worry about burning off the calories. Haven't had a cin-a-bon in years. Can't remember being at a Dairy Queen in decades. If it doesn't pass your lips it doesn't land on your hips.

I work out daily and have weight training as part of that work out. That increases metabolism which makes you burn calories even when you are sitting. I believe in everything in moderation, but a cinabon or a buster parfait is not part of that diet! Give me vegies and one chocolate piece for dessert.

Annette,
I don't like Cinabon, Dairy Queen Peanut Buster, (last one I had was in high schooL). If I am going to have a real dessert, I would opt for one in Paris...Given that we usually walk in Paris 6 hours a day, I am sure it will consume enough calories for a very small very chocolate laden eclair. A

I do not ear Cin-a-bon or Dairy Queen ... my food choices are related to overall good health and smart nutritional choices.

I've been aware of the matrix of treats to exercise for quite some time. Even when I was seriously competing, it never was more than a laugh for me. Eat your Cinabon or DQ Blizzard and do your exercise to burn the calories. As I'm sure Barbara Todaro will agree with, health and weight loss is not a simple "calories in minus calories out" calculation. There is a lot more to it and you need to consider the macro and micro nutrients of those items in your total, as well as what your overall nutrition plan is. I've seen people who've stuck to a very healthy diet get rid of that last bit of stubborn fat because of eating the greasiest burger they could find.

I always make sure to have 2 of everything. That way I'm fat is balanced on each side. Don't want to be lopsided; could cause me to wobble.
Actually, during the summer, i started a keto diet based on my acupuncturist's recommendation. Lost 25 pounds very quickly. The holiday treats have been tempting so gained 5 pounds, but I expect it to come off once I stop having fudge, chocolate chip cookies, etc...

I very rarely eat junk food or processed foods and when I do, it is a very small portion.
Did you know that in a one hour aerobics class you can burn an average of 600 calories/hour? Much more my style than running...
