As Realtors we are in the customer service business. The same goes for our terrific group of affiliates, the lenders, inspectors and such. That in mind I recently ad an interesting Customer Service at its Finest experience. Here is how it played out.   I have a non-life threatening medical condition that requires I see a specialist. I made an appointment over a month ago for Thursday August 14 at 3:30 PM. Unfortunately the condition has gotten worse so I called a few days back, explained the issue and requested an earlier appointment. I showed property on Thursday to some buyers from out of state. The husband has been transferred and thus the move needs to be completed as soon as possible. With them was there 15 year old son, who seemed at best mildly interested in the process. He spent most of the day under headphones and with an I Pad mini entertaining him. We went into one house that was very representative of the properties we had looked at all day. As we looked upstairs the son stayed downstairs. This is simple, it's my birthday today and my DL says I am 63. Thats' great an  I'm still on the grass rather than under it. So not complaining to much. But, why do so many things have to stop working, work incorrectly or  hurt. Some of its my fault, yes for sure. Leg filled with titanium rods and screws from a biking accident and always hurts. Hearing awful from years in the music industry. I will rephrase, the really really loud music industry. Should have been smarter but I was young, naive (stupid would be another word) and seemingly indestructible. WRONG. Arthritis beginning in hands killing my dream of being a great guitarist.   As almost every Realtor, I have done many transactions in which the loan was guaranteed by the FHA. Most of the transactions went smooth, sometimes a touch slower that I would have like, but in every case the transaction was completed. This will be a simple and straight from the heart blog. Two things to write about. I recently posted about my initial efforts at farming. I asked for suggestions and ideas. The response was overwhelming. 57 responses with ideas, suggestions and a lot of simple encouragement. The ideas are so good in some cases I'm surprised I didn't think of them myself. I will be starting a Facebook page and a website so my farm can find out what is going on in their neighborhood. I will do additional door knocking, and I will remain diligent in my efforts and understand that growing clients does not often happen overnight. Thanks Active rain Community.   Like many RE agents my career and most years seem like a roller coaster ride. After receiving my license in the spring of 2006 I was in a serious accident. By the time I was ready to resume work it was the summer of 2007 and the market was in free fall. My business did OK after that but was largely based upon referrals and what I have come to call coffee shop marketing. This year though has been slower than what is acceptable so, I am taking the Old McDonald approach and starting a farm My farm consists of 97 homes in a neighborhood that is upscale, has had moderate rate sales of properties. Active Rain has a new contest on what we'd like to see if our dream home.  I've never had the luxury of building my own home, but I've certainly shown a few thousand homes. My list now that my knees no longer work so well, are no stairs. My kids are older, so I want a separate family/game room, off from the rest of the house, so my kids can have their own space. I'd much rather have a den with a closet, than a den without a closet. Gas in the kitchen is a must, along with solid surface countertops. In my latest remodel, I'm changing out the KIDS bathtub to a large shower enclosure.  When the kids were little I bathed them in my big soaking tub.  Now that they are teenagers they only shower.  I don't think the kids bathroom bathtub was EVER used as a bathtub.  Get rid of it. I frequent a La Villa Mexican Restaraunt that is right  next door to my office in Tracy, CA Yesterday when I was there, I ran into Peggy.  We talked for quite a while about her son in the Navy, my son, that is no longer in the Air Force.  I hadn't seen her in a while and it was nice catching up. Today, my daughter wants to eat at the same restaraunt.  We go in and I see Peggy again. I bravely, walk up to Peggy, touch her on the arm, and say, "You're here again?"   The world dictionary has many definitions for “awkward”. One of them is “embarrassing” such as an embarrassing moment. I discovered long ago that if you don’t act embarrassed an awkward moment can be a lot less awkward.   Shortly after receiving my Real Estate License I had the opportunity to show a nice married couple properties.  This was only the second or third time I had shown property and was really still learning the ropes. We had an appointment at one property, in which the home owners would be present.   After viewing the property the female half of my buyers asked quite casually, if the washer and dryer would be included. I love shoes. I have them in every color. Yet, it can take me minutes, 2 or 3 looks, several 'try-on' before I decide to plunk down my hard earned cash to take them home.  Sometimes, I leave and go back again before I buy them.  Plus I can easily return a pair of shoes if I don't love them.  Compare that to a home buyer in Tracy or Mountain House, CA.  They want to see 5 - 6 houses.  They are in the house 5, maybe 10 minutes.  They write an offer, it gets accepted, they've already applied for a loan, money is deposited into escrow and BAM they are in contract.  Basically they are buying the house in a matter of seconds.  I don't buy SHOES this fast.  Yet, this is how the market is.  You can't easily return a house.
