Newport Beach, RHODE ISLAND was recognized on a national level and made the top list for Travel and Leisure magazine for August 2010 as one of "America's Most Beautiful Coastal Views" Rhode Island is called the Ocean State, and for a very good reason. Rhode Island, called the Ocean State, ranks our 50th state, and comprises 1,545 square miles. However, if you exclude the area of Narragansett Bay, the land mass (LAND AREA) of Rhode Island is 1,045 square miles. Land Area: 1,045 square miles Length of coastline: 40 miles Shoreline: 384 miles It distance North to South is 48miles and East to West 37 miles.
