Celebrating Christmas in our house (edit/delete) Today, after we got home from Church...we ate a fine dinner of roast beef, rice and gravy, corn, string beans, sweet potatoes, stewed apples, homemade blueberry cobbler and sweet ice tea\. After eating, the grandchildren, Jonah, Joshua and Marissa...put the decorations on the tree. (We did the lights last night)...Each child picked out their favorite ornaments and carefully placed them on the tree. What A Great Sunday.. Ginger 12/20/2010

What a great time of the year.  Christmas parties about every day with friends, family and the office and church.  It would be so good to have these delightful occasions spread out over the entire year rather than being bunched up ove a 4 week period of time. Winter is surely here. I live on the coast between Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Wilmington North Carolina in a coastal community called Southport.  It is a great place to live,; affordable housing, close to ocean, retirement community and lots of social and cultural things to get involve with. But, over the past two weeks, we are experiencing a lot of winter weather, with out the snow.. Not used to this.  Our average temperature for the year, is around 72 degrees.   Ready for Spring. Well...needed a break and took one. Jimmy and I did a 10 day cruise to and through the Panama Canal.  Had stops in Aruba, Curacao, Panama and Costa Rica... Great, affordable trip on Holland America, Zuiderdam.  This was one of the most relaxing trips that we have taken in a very long time.  Out in the Ocean with Thomas. Our Captain, took great pains, to steer us away from the hurricane. Met wonderful folks from Canada, Texas, Indiana................... Did a bit of business...and will get a referral going from folks in Canada... No matter where I go....real estate..is in the background.. Take care and get out of town when you can. We Celebrated Jimmy's Birthday yesterday.. The first thing I did was to make him a Birthday "Create A Card".... and put a fun picture of he and I on the front. Then at lunch, his co-workers gave him a Italian Nut Cake and A Carrot Cake.. Then...the Big Suprise...I bought him a new wide screen Computer....with all the bells and whistles.  Kim our Computer Tech...fixed it up to look just like his computer in his office..(that was hillarious, since he has a sign on it that says..."If you can't leave it like it is...don't sit down".. Next came the homemade Chocolate Pound Cake..that the 4 year old grandson and I made.. Batter was excellent.. As it was cooking, Joshua said to me....Oh Grandma...we have a problem..since it had risen to the top of the pound cake pan.  I said " no it is ok...It... 10/08/2010

"The Rain in Spain falls Mainly on the Plain."  Not so here.  I am in the southeast part  of North Carolina where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Cape Fear River...and the rain is falling on us. We live on a creek, called the Beaver Dam Creek (for obvious reasons) and the 10 inches of rain that we have gotten..is quite enough. Not really... We have needed a good rain so much.  Finally we got over 7 1/2 inches of rain.  Usually there is a dip in the yard that fills up with water...and we call it Ginger Lake... This morning, we got up and there was NO Standing water in the yard anywhere.  That means that the grown was so thirsty...that it soaked it all up. Maybe our WaterTable is higher now. Today has been a wonderful day with the grandchildren.  Two of our Grandson were playing Soccer. Jonah the eight year old was playing on one field as Joshua the 4 year old was playing on the other field. Have you ever tried to watch two soccer games at the same time.?  What great fun.  Both were doing well and I just hopped from one game  to the next.  Jonah is a seasoned player with 3 years of soccer behind him, but Joshua...1st game.  It was all fabulous.   Remember those days?? I have learned of an organization called CARING BRIDGE...that allows folks and friends to keep others udated.  I am doing this with my daughter, Meg and a friend names Lloyd. Today was the first day of Soccer for our 8 year old grandson.  It is exciting to see these you folks becoming so involved with their sports.  There were a total of 8 soccer fields with family and friends cheering their player on.  This was such a great day to start out the weekend with. It seems somewhat of a let down...after the family all goes back home.  For Labor Day, I fed 14 and it was such a delightful dinner.  Roast Beef and gravy, Creamed potatoes, Corn, Butterbeans, EggPlant and Onions, Cucumber in Vinegar, sweet tea and homemade peach cobbler. This is a wonderful time of the year.  For us at the coast...it is like our last hurrah before fall comes. Today we went to a crab derby in Southport and caught crabs.  The Grandchildren had such a great time. Other of the family will be here soon and we will probably go to the beach. Today was our traditional  Labor Day Crab Derby.... I took 3 of our grandchildren...with nets, and string and chicken legs to the dock in Southport's Small Boat Harbor.  It was great fun.  Jonah age 8, Joshua age 4 and Marissa age 2...What a trip.  I will try to post pictures a bit later. This is the Labor Day Weekend that we will enjou so much. WE have grandchildren  coming from far and wide to enjoy the ocean for one last time of this year. Tomorrow we will  join in for the CRAB DERBY on the old Southport pier.  Children of all ages will come with their best Crab Catching gear...to snag the most and biggest crabs off of the dock.. Today was an extraordinary day with the younger grandchildren.  They live here locally but we do play an active part in there upbringing since the daddy works on Saturdays. They arrive at 10:00 and there was much to do in Southport NC today.  There was a wooden sale boat race that started at 1:00.  We decided to go and watch the beginning of the race.    Joshua, who is 4 and Marissa who is 2...could not wait to see the sails being raised to begin the race. Great 4th of July 2010 (edit/delete) We had lots of family from around the US to come and visit and enjoy the forth of July in Southport,North Carolina. We had family to come from Greensboro, Asheville, Nashville, to come and join us on the front porch. The parade was great, the bands were great, the food was great.  It was great all the way around.
