Celebrate Flag Day and Remember the History of "The Star Spangled Banner" Happy Flag Day Today is the day to fly your flag to commemorate Flag Day and to remember the meaning of the words of our national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner" written by Francis Scott Key. On August 24, 1814, The British military had burned the United States Capitol and White House. Americans feared the British would succeed and force the US to become a part of England again. Francis Scott Key's friend, Doctor  William Beanes, had been captured by the British and Key decided to try to get him released. After gaining permission from President James Madison, he set out on a boat with John Skinner, the Prisoner of War negotiator. They found the fleet and boarded the ship to negotiate the release. The British mad...

Throwback Thursdays- Sharing Pictures of My Cousin Ron and I with his Pet Rooster         My cousin Ron says this was taken at their old ranch house where he lived with his mother in Lancaster, CA before he started kindergarten. My cousin would have been about 4 years old, and I was maybe 3 years old. Looking at our coats and hats, it was probably winter. Looks like I had a stuffed lamb sitting there...but do not remember it.                   The second picture was taken the same afternoon. Ron was holding his big red rooster that they kept as a pet. He said the only chicken name he knew at that age was "Henny Penny," so that was what we called it, although it was a ROOSTER. His mom told him that the rooster used to walk right up under her bedroom window every morning, and wake her up ...

My Triangular Effect to Be a Successful Agent I know there is so much speculation out there as what you can and cannot do to be successful in the real estate world. I have tried many things that work, only work once and things that do not work at all. Live and Learn and spend money trying. But I have decided after all these years that it is not just one particular item but instead three separate items to survive in this hectic world we have thrown ourselves into. First of all I think 'Great Communication' with your clients and past clients is extremely important. I keep reading survey results where buyers and sellers with say their last real estate agent was great but 90% of them cannot remember their name. That is amazing so you must keep your name in front of your past clients and fut...

6 Facts You Might Not Know About Memorial Day 1.  During the Civil War days, people used to decorate the graves of their fallen loved ones. This holiday was called "Decoration Day".  A ceremony at the cemetery at Gettysburg honored the dead in 1863, while women in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, placed flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers on Independence Day in 1864. Confederate women in South Carolina were honoring their dead with grave flowers as early as 1861. Other places that claim to have hosted the first Decoration Day are Savanna, Georgia, and Warrenton, Virginia. 2.  A hundred years after the first Decoration Day celebration, President Lyndon B. Johnson settled the debate — in the official record at least — when he signed a proclamation decreeing that the holiday got its start 100...

7 Gardening Tips to Share this Spring   1. Buy 'Potting Soil' when planting your new plants and trees. Every year you should replace the potting soil in your potted plants and flowers. 2. Make sure the flowers and shrubs you purchase and take home to plant, all take the same amount of sunlight and water.  3. Put taller plants in the back and shorter ones to the front and have a nice variety of colors. 4. Get saucers to put under your pots so that they hold water longer and stay moist. 5. If the water from the sprinkler is getting the flowers too wet, it is simple to buy new screw on heads that will bubble. Also drip-less sprinklers/tubing are good alternatives as too much water spraying on the flowers will make they die off faster. 6. Trimming the plants and flowers will make them come ...

Taking Hummingbird Photos with Smart Phones...Not Yesterday I was picking up my dogs at 'Doggy Day Care' and this hummingbird was right beside me buzzing around. I took 6 pictures with my smart phone and 4 were missing the bird completely.  The top one shows the bird and the second one shows the edge of the bird on the left. I suggest that you always try to have your camera as smart phones are slower and I find that nature is quicker.    Note, it did not come out too bad but not up to my normal hummingbird standards. Always try to have a camera ready for those special shots.  Thanks for Reading my Blog...... Throwback Thursdays, Baby Picture of My Mother   This is a photo of my mother, Sarah Marie Harris. Photograph was taken in Morristown, Tennessee about 1920. My mother always remembered her little dog but somewhere during her travels it was lost. She lived in Tennessee until her husband (my future dad) signed up in the Army/Air Corp. She followed him around the county and spent time with her mother in Knoxville. They finally moved to California but she always remembered she was a 'Southerner'. Thanks for reading my blog.....

Last week I received a call from a buyer who wanted to see a home for sale. He was nice enough, and he had many questions about this home. The listing wasn't mine, but of course I said I'd show him the house after I researched the back-end details of the sale. The listing was new and showings weren't available for a few days so I took the opportunity to do as much homework as I could. Through the process I spoke with the buyer many times. Every time we talked he was polite and appreciative. And so came the day to view the house and I prepped myself and arrived at the home a few minutes early. A few minutes before our agreed meeting time a car pulled up. I obviously assumed it was the buyer I had never met. I stepped from my car and met the man as he got out of his. I greeted him with th...

The number of houses for sale in Riverside California I've been keeping track of the inventory of houses for sale in Riverside CA for quite a while. An important number to watch, for both buyers and sellers, is how many houses are on the market. As you can see from the chart below, the number of active listings has gone down dramatically since the end of 2008.  But it has been holding fairly steady for almost a year.    (Information is from the MRMLS. It is deemed reliable but not guaranteed.)
