As the flood insurance issue has continued to slow the sales of waterfront property in Sarasota, the good news is that the snowbirds are arriving and their purchases of condos and homes are not limited to waterfront sites.  Many come for golf, proximity to their favorite neighborhoods and haunts or just for the great weather during the winter months.  Below is the latest survey result taken by Credit Suisse of local agents and their take on the real estate market here.    January has brought many more properties to market and the sales outlook is strong.   Mable Ringling Memorial Fountain Restored, Sarasota, FL.  Dismantled and covered over with dirt for 60 years the Mable Ringling Memorial Fountain has been renovated and is once more flowing at the southern gateway to downtown Sarasota. The Mable Ringling Memorial Fountain is located in Luke Wood Park adjacent to the Senior Friendship Center on the north side of US41 just prior to entering downtown Sarasota.  The fountain was built in 1936 by the Sarasota Federation of Garden Circles in honor of Mable Ringling, wife of John Ringling, a key figure in Sarasota history. The fountain began to deteriorate during World War II as funds to maintain it dwindled.  The fountain was filled in and covered over with dirt in the 1950s.  And so it remained until local historian Larry Kelleher of Saras...

  Painted Pianos Of Sarasota Keys Hit The Streets Of Sarasota!  Six brightly painted spinet pianos played by six professional pianists made their city debut on Friday, January 18, 2014 at Sarasota's downtown Five Points Park at 5pm.  Also in attendance were the seven "Legacy Artists" who converted the pianos into colorful works of art. Five Year Real Estate Market Review For Sarasota Florida 34238 The five year index for active listings (properties currently on the market) is slightly below half of what it was in Sarasota Florida and the 34238 zip code in December of 2008 (see the chart below). The indexed value of active listings has increased slightly for the fifth month in a row; this echos and end-of-year slow down similar to last year. HUD Appeals Non-Borrowing Spouse Ruling The Department of Housing and Urban development is not giving up without a fight and has appealed the October court decision that found them liable for foreclosing on the homes of non-borrowing spouses whose spouse had a obtained a reverse mortgage. According to an article published by Reverse Mortgage Daily, the appeal, filed by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, was submitted by Assistant Attorney General Stuart F. Delery on November 26. Put Your Convertible Top Down When You Are In Sarasota Florida It is a true luxury to own a convertible this time of year in Sarasota Florida. When the weather is as nice as it is right now, anyone who has a convertible can be seen driving around town, to the beach, or even just to the store, with their tops down.
